The main function of this Department involves obtaining federal and state aid in support of Town programs and administering these programs. The Department seeks sources of funding for Town projects, supervises the federally funded Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) for the Towns of Oyster Bay and North Hempstead and the City of Glen Cove, and administers the Town’s Community Development Program. The Department has three divisions: Federal and State Aid, Employment & Training, and Community Development.
Community Development Block Grant Program
The Town of Oyster Bay’s Community Development Program was started in 1975. Funding is provided by the Federal government under a Consortium Agreement with the County of Nassau. Activities include residential rehabilitation for seniors meeting income eligibility criteria, downtown public facility improvements in conjunction with redeveloping commercial facades and assistance to a wide range of public service agencies, including assistance for youth counseling, senior nutrition programs and veterans.
Division Of Employment And Training
The Division of Employment and Training administers the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) through the operation of two Workforce New York Career Centers. The Division aims to connect job-seekers with local businesses and to equip unemployed workers with the skills they need to succeed in today’s workforce.
Division Of Federal And State Aid
The Department’s Division of Federal and State Aid seeks out and applies for various federal and state grants and serves as a liaison between funding agencies and all Town Departments to administer grant-funded projects. By bringing federal and state monies to the Town, the Division enables other Departments to reduce costs and to maximize local tax dollars.
The Workforce Partnership
As part of the Town of Oyster Bay’s ongoing commitment to supporting and strengthening the local economy, the Town is pleased to serve as administrator of The Workforce Partnership, a consortium of local governments funded by the Federal Workforce Investment Act that provides valuable resources to both employers and job seekers.
