Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino is joining Nassau County Legislators Rose Marie Walker and Laura Schaefer in hosting a Free Grievance Workshop for residents looking to acquire information on how to challenge their property tax assessments. The workshop will be held on Thursday, March 28th, at 7 p.m. at Hicksville Middle School, 215 Jerusalem Avenue in Hicksville.

“The assessed value of your property helps determine what share of property taxes you’ll pay to your school district, County, Town and Village governments,” said Supervisor Saladino. “While Nassau County determines your value, we in Town government want to make sure you know that you have a right as homeowner to challenge your assessment. Remember, your assessment can only be lowered as the result of a challenge – it can never be raised – and this workshop helps you challenge for free.”

In January 2019, Nassau County notified residents of their home’s new tentative assessed value for the 2020/2021 school tax period and the 2021 general tax period. Any residents who did not receive the notice may view it online at www.mynassauproperty.com or contact their local County legislator.

“I encourage all homeowners who are unhappy with their current level of assessment to grieve their property taxes,” said Legislator Walker. “I have been hosting Property Tax Grievance Workshops for the past 10 year in order to teach residents how to grieve their property taxes on their own. Hundreds of residents have already taken advantage of these informative workshops.”

Residents who live in an Incorporated Village within the Town of Oyster Bay should note that they generally must file separately with their Village for tax purposes, in addition to filing with Nassau County. Village residents should contact their local Village Hall for information.
