Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and members of the Town Board joined with the Vinny’s Army organization to officially proclaim the month of September Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in the Town of Oyster Bay.

Vinny’s Army is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children diagnosed with cancer, as well as their families. The creation of Vinny’s Army was inspired by the courageous battle faced by the Cusumano family of Massapequa, when their son Vinny was shockingly diagnosed with cancer in October of 2022. Just 10 years old at the time, Vinny was living the life of a regular kid finishing up elementary school, playing sports and spending time with his friends and family. That’s when Vinny’s Army was born, and ever since the organization has worked to ensure that no family faces the battle of fighting cancer alone.

“Today we encourage all residents to join Vinny’s Army to help create smiles and spread love, hope, strength and resilience,” said Supervisor Saladino. “During the month of September, we will illuminate Town Hall in gold and display gold ribbons on the columns of our front entrance as a symbol of our unity in the fight against pediatric cancer.”
