Oyster Bay Town officials joined with Nassau County Legislator Samantha Goetz to oversee the installation of a new pedestrian crossing sign with flashing lights by the crosswalk located on Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay, adjacent to the Life Enrichment Center, where hundreds of local seniors navigate the roadway to participate in programs. Councilwoman Vicki Walsh and Town Clerk Rich LaMarca joined efforts with Legislator Goetz to make this enhancement a reality for the community.
“We worked together to upgrade this crossing area to improve safety for our pedestrians, especially the many seniors that frequent the Life Enrichment Center and often need to utilize the crosswalk,” said Legislator Goetz. “We were pleased to work with the center to bring this improvement to the community.”
The signage, installed alongside the roadway by the crosswalk on Audrey Avenue, brings attention to the crosswalk with flashing lights, which will be especially beneficiary during night hours. The light is also solar powered, making it beneficial to the environment as it has reduced reliance on electricity.
“Ensuring the safety of our residents is among our top priorities,” said Councilwoman Walsh. “This new signage will serve as a clear reminder for motorists to take caution and slow down when approaching this intersection.”
“We thank Legislator Goetz for spearheading this initiative in our Town and for looking out for all residents who visit our hamlet,” added Town Clerk LaMarca. “The placement of this traffic safety measure reinforces our commitment to pedestrian safety and highlights our focus on keeping an accommodating environment in our downtown.”
