Town Announces Expanded Parking at Bethpage Pickleball Courts

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilwoman Michele Johnson recently announced the addition of a new parking lot at the Bethpage Pickleball Court. Located at Lenox Avenue Park behind the Bethpage Public Library on Powell Avenue, this new parking area will allow dozens more residents to enjoy the game of Pickleball.

“Pickleball has become incredibly popular in the Town of Oyster Bay, as seniors and families play daily at our courts in Massapequa and Bethpage,” Supervisor Saladino said. “To meet the demand created by a growing number of Pickleball fans, the Town has partnered with BK Sweeney’s Shopping Center to add additional parking for residents seeking to utilize our courts in Bethpage. We also expanded the adjacent parklet’s field to meet the new parking area.”

A fun sport for all ages, pickleball is played with a wooden paddle and lightweight plastic ball and combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong. The sport can include two, three, or four players and shares similarities to other racquet sports. The dimensions and layout closely resemble a badminton court, which is considerably smaller than a tennis court. Rules of the game are somewhat similar to tennis.

“Pickleball is a very fun, social and healthy activity for the whole family, and this new parking facility in Bethpage will be a welcome addition to the community while helping meet the increasing need for quality facilities to play this great sport,” Councilwoman Johnson said.
