Councilwoman Johnson Announces Self-Defense Instructional Program

Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Michele Johnson today announced a new Self-Defense Instructional Program that offers participants a blend of taekwondo, aikido and meditation taught by a certified instructor.  The 10-week program, instructed by Grand Master Gene Perceval, is open to residents and nonresidents aged 18+ on either Mondays or Thursdays beginning in July.

Councilwoman Johnson stated, “The Town of Oyster Bay is proud to offer residents an opportunity to learn self-defense, including different styles of kicks and wrist grabs, which helps one escape holds in an unexpected situation.  Be proactive, join the program and help develop increased mental and physical health.”

Self-Defense Instruction Program Classes are offered on Mondays, beginning July 8th at 6pm and on Thursdays, beginning July 11th a 3pm.  Both Monday and Thursday classes will take place at the Hicksville Athletic Center, located at 167 Broadway in Hicksville.  The fee for one 10-week session is $60 for residents and $70 for nonresidents.

Registration for this new Self-Defense Instruction Program is underway. For more information, please contact the Town of Oyster Bay Department of Parks at (516) 797-4125 x. 2.
