The Handicapped Services Division administers the Group Activities Program for the Handicapped (GAP), which provides a unique social-recreational experience for developmentally disabled individuals who reside in the Town of Oyster Bay in a well supervised setting.
GAP PROGRAM
The focus of the GAP Program is to encourage socialization in a group setting. The GAP Program provides a special six-week camp experience for children ages 5-21. The Programs are offered at both Marjorie R. Post Park in Massapequa and Syosset Woodbury Park in Syosset, weekdays from 10:00a.m.-3:00p.m. For further information contact the Handicapped Services Division.
Between October and May, the GAP Program offers a Monday afternoon Bowling Program for ages 5 and older, an Over 21 Tuesday Evening Program, Wednesday Drama Group for those who are 16 and older, Friday evening Programs for ages 16 and older, Saturday Bowling for ages 5 and older, Saturday Respite Programs for ages 5 and older once a month and Saturday Day Trips ages 5 and older twice a month.
PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM
Friday Evening Respite Program for Children with Autism takes place on Friday evenings from 6:30pm-8:30pm from October-May and rotates locations between Syosset-Woodbury Community Center in Woodbury and North Massapequa Community Center in North Massapequa. This program provides entertainment monthly as well as a trip into the community monthly.
