Yard waste is collected and taken to compost facilities. Yard waste consists of grass clippings, weeds, leaves, tree trimmings/branches/twigs, hedge and shrub clippings, small roots, other garden/yard waste and Christmas trees. These materials should be placed in plastic bags, with each bag weighing no more than 50 pounds.

It is very important that no household garbage, refuse or animal waste be placed in the bag with yard waste as these contaminate the yard waste and make it unusable for composting. Branches and large roots should be tied in bundles no more than four feet in length and weighing no more than 50 pounds. Stumps should have all soil removed and be cut into pieces weighing no more than 50 pounds.

PLEASE NOTE: Regular S.O.R.T. crews collect the contents of your recycling pail, newspapers, junk mail, etc. Sanitation crews come around the same day to collect yard waste.
