Saladino Announces Youth Dek Hockey League for Spring 2022

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that registration will be available for the Town’s Spring Youth Dek Hockey League both online and in person. The league is open to boys and girls aged 6-12, and will begin on April 18th. Dek hockey is a variation of traditional ice hockey, where the games are played sans skates on the ‘dek’ of an ice rink after the ice has melted away for the season. The season will feature 10 games, weekly practices, and an end-of-season playoff competition.

“Boys and girls who are enrolled in the Town’s Youth Dek Hockey League will have a great opportunity to not only improve their hockey skills, but to also learn important life lessons such as good sportsmanship and teamwork from our talented coaching staff,” Supervisor Saladino said. “This is a great activity for youngsters, whether they have experience in hockey or are just learning and are interested in playing hockey for the first time.”

Online registration will take place from March 21st to March 23rd beginning at 9:00am. The link will be available at oysterbaytown.com/parks on those dates. To register, please create an account, and be prepared to upload proof of residency and a copy of the child’s birth certificate.

In person registration will take place on March 28th from 5:30pm to 8:00pm (Syosset-Woodbury Park Skate House) and March 29th from 5:30pm to 8:00pm (Allen Park Community Room.) The program will cost $95 for residents, and $110 for non-residents. Each child will need to provide their own equipment, a list of which will be supplied upon registration.

Families must provide proof of residency and a copy of their child’s birth certificate at registration. If a session is canceled due to inclement weather, make-up day(s) will be attempted. For more information, please call (516)-797-7465 ext. 8234.
