Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that the Town will launch a new Youth Dek Hockey League open to boys and girls aged 6-12, beginning on April 5th, 2021. Dek hockey is a variation of traditional ice hockey, where the games are played sans skates on the ‘dek’ of an ice rink after the ice has melted away for the season. The season will feature 10 games, weekly practices, and an end-of-season playoff competition.
“Boys and girls aged 6-12 who are enrolled in the Town’s new Youth Dek Hockey League will have a great opportunity to not only improve their hockey skills, but will also learn important life lessons suchas good sportsmanship from our talented and dedicated coaching staff,” Supervisor Saladino said. “Dek Hockey is a really fun variation oftraditional ice hockey, and I am excited for boys and girls of our Town between the ages of 6 and 12 to give this new program a try!”
