Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilman Steve Labriola and Councilwoman Michele Johnson today joined local officials and residents in celebrating the unveiling of the first-ever dog park on the Town’s north shore, located at Centre Island Beach in Bayville. Last year, the Town announced it was the recipient of a state grant to construct the facility. “This beautiful new dog park shows that we can achieve great things when working together with our local community,” said Supervisor Saladino. “I thank Mayor Bob DeNatale and the Village of Bayville, former State Senator Carl Marcellino, and Senator Jim Gaughran for their assistance in seeing this project come to fruition. Our pets are like family, and dog parks provide a great community setting where residents and their pets can gather and socialize.” Councilman Labriola added, “It is so enjoyable to get out and enjoy the nice weather with our pets. I’m so pleased we were able to bring this facility to our Town’s north shore, in addition to allowing for leashed pets to visit several local parks in the Town of Oyster Bay.” The Councilman recently initiated a new Dog-Friendly parks program, through which the Town designated one dozen neighborhood parks in various communities where residents are permitted to bring their leashed pets. This new initiative builds on recent efforts to enhance dog-lover’s access to Town facilities, including upgrades to the Town’s existing Dog Park on the south shore and the commitment for the new north shore facility. “I’ve spoken with many residents who have expressed their desires for a local dog park on our north shore,” added Councilwoman Johnson. “Continuing improvements to our parks and recreational facilities continue to be a priority for our Town Board.”
