With high temperatures and humidity impacting the region, Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that hours of operation at all Town pools will be extended this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pools will open at 11 a.m. and remain open on those evenings until 8:30 p.m. Additionally, the Town will open cooling centers through Sunday to provide residents in need of relief from the sun a place to cool off.

 

“This weekend’s forecast calls for extreme heat, and we are pleased to provide our residents with opportunities to take a break from the sun,” Supervisor Saladino said. “All residents are invited to enjoy some fun family time and make the Town pool facilities their backyards away from home.”

 

All resident pass-holders are welcome to visit any pool during this extended timeframe, including Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Park, Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, Bethpage Community Park, Marjorie R. Post Community Park in Massapequa; and Tappen Pool in Glenwood Landing. Pools open at 11 a.m. daily and will remain open to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19th, Saturday, July 20th and Sunday, July 21st.

 

Town cooling centers, which will also be open Friday through Sunday, will be available from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Marjorie Post Park Community Center (Unqua & Merrick Roads, Massapequa) and Syosset-Woodbury Community Center (7800 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury), as well as 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, 1001 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage.

 

“As temperatures increase, a combination of heat and humidity has the potential to become overwhelming, especially out in the direct sun,” Supervisor Saladino stated. “Heat and humidity are part of life on Long Island in the summer. To help provide our residents with some relief, we are pleased to extend pool hours and make these cooling centers available for those in need of a location to cool off.”
