Town of Oyster Bay officials recently met with north shore residents to discuss the construction of a dog park at under-utilized space at Charles E. Ransom Beach in Bayville, as many north shore dog owners have expressed interest. Last fall, the State announced that the Town would be the recipient of a $100,000 grant for construction of the dog park. The Town also plans to construct a new playground adjacent to the facility.
Proponents believe that construction of a new dog park will help promote responsible dog ownership by offering an alternative for those who illegally allow their pets to roam local beaches and parks. A contained dog park, which will feature separate areas for large and small dogs, provides a safe play area for all pets and helps reduce behavioral problems by allowing a safe space to run and exercise.
