Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board announced today that the Hicksville Commuter Parking Garage, which closed earlier this fall for significant repairs, will reopen on New Years Eve at 5am for commuters. Alternative parking and commuter shuttles from the former Sears site will remain operational through Friday, January 11, 2019.
“The Town of Oyster Bay will close out 2018 on a high-note with the successful reopening of the Hicksville Commuter Parking Garage,” said Supervisor Saladino. “While the structural problems didn’t develop on my watch, I’m happy to deliver real results and thank commuters for their patience.”
Since 2011, the Hicksville Commuter Garage – serving as home to 1,440 parking spots – has been plagued with problems. Repair work completed to date includes repair of structural cracks, installation of concrete decking reinforcement, replacement of concrete decking and expansion joints where needed, replacement of the upper level expansion joint, heating, waterproofing, fire alarm system installation, and replacement of the carbon monoxide and nitrous oxide detection system. Over the next few weeks, minor additional work will be completed along with the installation of solar lighting.
Only Town of Oyster Bay residents with valid commuter parking permits are authorized to use the garage. Hours of operation are 5 a.m. to midnight Monday to Friday. The facility is closed on holidays and weekends.
