Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Thomas Hand recently joined with local Girl Scout Ashley Tarricone of Troop 3178 in Farmingdale to unveil new park improvements made to a park in her neighborhood as part of her Gold Award Project, the highest award attainable in Girl Scouts.  As part of her Gold Award Project, Ashley formed a beautification plan and raised $800 to assist the Town with costs of the improvements.  The project included an improved and resurfaced basketball court, new hopscotch court, four-square ball court and new tree plantings.

“I’m proud to be here for the unveiling of improvements made at this local park in Farmingdale. These improvements are things that every resident in the area will benefit from, and I commend Ashley for using her Gold Award Project to do something so selfless,” Supervisor Saladino said. “Witnessing firsthand what Ashley was able to accomplish when she put her mind to it is truly inspirational. Congratulations to Ashley for achieving the Gold Award, something only achieved by 5% of eligible Girl Scouts!”

Ashley spearheaded a beautification plan, which consisted of resurfacing of the basketball court, new tree plantings, and installation of a four square court and hop scotch court, and ultimately raised $800 to assist the Town with costs associated with the improvements. Ashley should serve as a role model for other young people of how to give back to the community they love.

“I am thrilled when projects like this come along where the Town gets a chance to work directly with local community members, to help to enhance the quality of life for all our residents,” Councilman Hand said. “It’s truly inspirational to be here today to celebrate the culmination of all this hard work. I’d also like to extend special thanks to our amazing staff from the Parks Department, for doing their part in making sure Ashley’s vision was realized.”
