Supervisor Saladino Issues Nor’easter Storm Alert

With high wind gusts, heavy rain and coastal flooding expected from a Nor’easter approaching Long Island, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino advises residents to exercise caution, with the storm affecting the region this evening through Saturday.  The National Weather Service declared a High Wind Warning, with gusts forecasted up to 60mph.

Residents are reminded to tie down and secure all items outside their homes, as flying debris can be deadly.  Residents should have flashlights and batteries in the event of power outages, and ensure generators are operational and have fuel.  Generators should never be run inside the home or garage due to the dangers of carbon monoxide.  Another preparation is to remove valuables from basements and flood prone parts of the home.

Residents are advised to use caution if driving as flooding may make travel difficult.  Use diligence and only use roads if necessary.  Oyster Bay Highway crews have cleaned and cleared storm drains in flood prone areas so that maximum rain water capacity can be reached.

Non-life threatening emergencies – such as downed trees and localized flooding – can be reported 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to Oyster Bay’s Department of Highways Hotline at (516) 677-5757.  Residents in an emergency situation should dial 911.

To report a power outage or electrical emergency, residents may contact PSEG Long Island at 1-800-490-0075.

The Town of Oyster Bay Department of Public Safety is monitoring the storm and is in contact with the Nassau County Emergency Operations Center.  For storm safety tips, please visit https://oysterbaytown.com/departments/public-safety.
