Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and his colleagues on the Town Board proclaimed January 27, 2024 ‘Holocaust Remembrance Day’ alongside Holocaust survivor, Alfred Weinberg, and many leaders from the Town of Oyster Bay’s Jewish community. The date marks the liberation of Auschwitz, one of the most infamous concentration camps of the Holocaust.

Alfred Weinberg and his family escaped Nazi Germany in 1939, fleeing to the Dominican Republic and eventually settling in New York, where he was granted U.S. citizenship. Alfred married his late wife Audrey and raised their two sons in Farmingdale, where they became active members of the community.

“In many ways the Weinbergs stand here today and represent the many souls who were tragically unable to escape the Holocaust. They lived for them by becoming beacons of light in their communities and sharing their stories of survival so that we will never forget,” said Supervisor Saladino. “It is our solemn prayer that we will continue to do everything in our power to make sure that nothing like the Holocaust ever happens again.”
