Long Island is facing a crisis: TOBAY Beach is disappearing, and we need your help to save it.
Erosion has threatened the TOBAY shoreline for the last 3 years. Supervisor Saladino and the Oyster Bay Town Board launched a beach restoration project as a result, trucking in 44,000 tons of additional sand and planting dune grass. But it’s no longer enough.
A recent storm has swept away the TOBAY shoreline and the dunes that protect Ocean Parkway. It caused more damage than Hurricane Sandy.
As it stands, there’s nearly no beach left!
That’s why we’re urging Governor Hochul, Senator Schumer, and Senator Gillibrand to take emergency action to invest in TOBAY Beach and secure support from the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
Just last year, TOBAY was named the best beach on Long Island. We can’t lose our summer home!
Here’s What We’re Asking For:
1. Stop the erosion: We need immediate action to stop the beach from disappearing. We know that the Army Corps of Engineers has the expertise to resolve this matter and we implore their immediate assistance to harden our shoreline with additional sand and protect the mainland.
2. Save our community: TOBAY Beach isn’t just a spot for summer fun. It’s a part of who we are, and we can’t afford to lose it. Our businesses, our families, and our memories depend on it.
3. Plan for tomorrow: Let’s not just fix the problem for now with band-aids. We need a long-term plan to keep TOBAY Beach viable for our children and grandchildren.
Please, don’t let TOBAY Beach disappear. We’re counting on you to act fast to save our beloved beach.
