Oyster Bay Town Councilman Steve Labriola announced that a new pickleball court has been completed at John Burns Park in Massapequa. The court is the latest among several that have been constructed at various parks facilities throughout the Town, with even more courts coming soon.
“The demand for pickleball courts has increased in neighborhoods all over our Town as the sport has become a favorite among residents of all ages,” said Councilman Labriola. “Pickleball is a fun, social and healthy activity for the whole family and new playing surfaces are a welcome addition to the community.”
Pickleball combines the elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong, and has become a favorite in many communities. The game is played with a wooden paddle and lightweight plastic ball and can include two, three or four players. The dimensions and layout closely resemble a badminton court, which is considerably smaller than a tennis court.
