Councilwoman Laura L. Maier

Laura is a successful small businesswoman and elected official in the Town of Oyster Bay. As owner of several Dairy Queen and Jersey Mike’s Subs franchises throughout Long Island, Laura has excelled in site development, construction management, hiring employees, marketing, and customer relations. It is this business approach that Laura brings as an elected official in the Town of Oyster Bay.

Elected to the position of Councilwoman in November 2019, Laura Maier has instilled fiscal discipline in government while achieving landmark reforms. Significant amounts of debt have been paid off under her watch while not raising property taxes. This debt reduction is possible due to spending restraints and operational efficiencies that save money for taxpayers. Despite a national economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town has produced multiple budget surpluses and earned several credit rating upgrades from Wall Street. Laura has led the charge to partner government with non-profit organizations that help people in need of assistance. Through her leadership, the Town has raised charitable funds and supplies for homeless children, hospitalized children, veterans and those facing hunger.

Laura believes giving back to local communities is an important role for any business and community leader. She continues to support many local groups such as Chambers of Commerce, PTAs and schools, sport teams, Boys and Girl Scouts, veterans, police officers, and fire departments. Laura has helped raise charitable funds to support Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park through the Children’s Miracle Network.

Laura resides in Massapequa with her husband, Jeff, and their three young sons; Brayden, Ryan, and Mason. With the success of her first store, Laura earned “Top Sales in Franchise History” by Corporate Dairy Queen. She has been awarded “Top 50 Women in Business” by The Long Island Press and was named “Woman of the Year” by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for raising $250,000 in charitable funds for cancer research and treatment.
