Town Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks Open for Season

Town of Oyster Bay residents looking for a fun winter activity will be pleased to learn that outdoor ice skating at the Marjorie R. Post (Massapequa) and Syosset-Woodbury Community Park ice rinks will officially open for the 2016-17 season beginning the day after Thanksgiving on Friday, November 25, 2016, according to Oyster Bay Town Councilman Joseph D. Muscarella. “As winter approaches, Town residents will once again be able to enjoy outdoor ice skating at two of the Town’s wonderful Community Parks,” Councilman Muscarella stated.

General admission for Oyster Bay Town residents for two-hour public skating sessions at both rinks will be $2.00 for ages 2 to 4, $4.00 for ages 5 through 17, $5.00 for ages 18 and older, $2.00 for senior citizens 60 and older and $3.00 for Town veterans, volunteer firefighters and auxiliary police with identification. For non-residents, the general admission will be $3.00 for ages 2 to 4, $7.00 for ages 5 to 17, $8.00 for ages 18 and older, $4.00 for seniors and $3.00 for veterans, volunteer firefighters and auxiliary police with identification. Both Town resident and non-resident children under 2 will be admitted free. Special discount books consisting of 10 tickets will be available. A discount book for ages 5 to 17 years will be $30.00 for Town residents and $55.00 for non- residents. A book for ages 18 and older will be $35.00 for Town residents and $65.00 for non- residents. In addition, ice rinks may be rented by resident groups for $225.00 per hour. Non-resident groups can rent the rinks for $325.00 per hour. Charters will be available when public sessions are not scheduled. Requests for group charters can be scheduled by calling the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center at 516-433-7465, ext. 8231.

“Ice skating provides residents with an outlet for a fun outdoor activity,” Councilman Muscarella commented. “Skaters of all ages and ability levels are certain to have an enjoyable time at the rinks in addition to a healthy work out.”

Councilman Muscarella noted that the skate shop will be open during all public sessions offering skate rental at $4.00 per pair, per session. Discount books for skate rentals will be available for $35.00. Schedules for the outdoor rinks will be available at the rinks themselves or online at www.oysterbaytown.com and in the Parks Department at Town Hall South (977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa).

Councilman Muscarella added that for those who would prefer to do their ice skating indoors, the state-of-the-art Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, located at Bethpage Community Park, is open year round.
