Derelict House Demolished After Town Prevails in Court to Protect Locust Valley Neighborhood

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Lou Imbroto announced that a long-vacant and deteriorated house on 14th Street in Locust Valley following legal proceedings and Town code enforcement efforts aimed at protecting neighborhood quality of life and public safety.

Inspections of the property found multiple code violations, from years of lack of maintenance and neglect of the property. Both the exterior and interior were found to be in very poor condition, with uninhabitable, unsanitary and structurally unstable conditions existing throughout the structure.

“The Town of Oyster Bay is committed to protecting our neighborhoods from blight and neglect,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Following a lengthy legal process, throughout which we remained committed to enforcing our codes and standing up for residents, the Town prevailed and this structure was deemed uninhabitable and ordered for demolition.”

The Town issued summonses and Notices of Violation and retained an outside engineering consultant to evaluate the structure. It was determined this property was in violation of Town Code and deemed a public nuisance.

“Residents pay a lot to live on Long Island, and we all deserve clean, safe and well-maintained neighborhoods,” Councilman Imbroto added. “We will continue to aggressively pursue enforcement actions when abandoned or unsafe properties threaten the character and safety of our neighborhoods.”
