Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Rebecca Alesia reminds residents that there are some important rules to remember when it comes to putting out the garbage.

“In order to protect the suburban aesthetic of our beautiful Town, the Town of Oyster Bay has in place several ordinances regarding the placement and collection of garbage,” Councilwoman Alesia said. “If residents follow these simple stipulations, this is something we could all benefit from.”

The Councilwoman went on to state that some of the regulations the Town has put into place include garbage containers being placed at the curb, not in the roadway, and restrictions to the size of the container used. “Residents must make sure to use containers that do not exceed thirty-two gallons or weigh more than fifty pounds,” Councilwoman Alesia urged. “Additionally, the Tow’s ordinance stipulates that garbage may be placed at the curbside only after 5:00 p.m. the night before a scheduled collection and empty containers must be removed from the curb line by 8:00 p.m. on the day of collection.”

Councilwoman Alesia added that residents who have questions about Town sanitation can call 677-5848. Residents who reside in villages, or who have private sanitation should contact their carter.
