Laura Maier was sworn into office as an Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman in January 2020. Laura is a successful small businesswoman and former health care management administrator who knows what it takes to manage a business, balance the books and create jobs. This experience benefits taxpayers in the Town of Oyster Bay as Laura believes in fiscally-conservative budgeting practices that mandate efficiency and limit spending.
Over the years as owner of Dairy Queen in Massapequa and Jersey Mike’s Subs in Farmingdale and Massapequa Park, Laura has excelled in site development, construction management, hiring employees, marketing, and customer relations. Laura is a member of several business organizations, including the Massapequa Chamber of Commerce. Laura believes giving back to local communities is an important role for any business. Laura continues to support many local groups such as the PTAs and schools, sport teams, Boys and Girl Scouts, veterans, police officers, and fire departments. Laura has helped raise charitable funds to support Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park through the Children’s Miracle Network.
A graduate of Quinnipiac University, Laura earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Management. Shortly after finishing college, she took her first job with AIM Healthcare Services. Hired as an account manager, Laura was promoted quickly to a Regional Director of the New York and New Jersey region. During her 10 years with the company, Laura was responsible for overseeing a staff of approximately 40 people across 40 hospitals throughout her region. Laura’s experience also includes working at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health Systems as an Assistant Director of Provider Enrollment. During her time in this position, Laura oversaw a team of 20 people, who were responsible for enrolling physicians and staff in different health care plans. While Laura enjoyed her time in the health care management field, she always dreamed of owning her own business.
Laura resides in Massapequa with her husband, Jeff, and their three young sons; Brayden, Ryan, and Mason. Her husband teaches 7th grade science at Locust Valley Central School District. Laura and her family are members of the St. Rose of Lima Parish in Massapequa. With the success of her first store, Laura earned “Top Sales in Franchise History” by Corporate Dairy Queen. She has been awarded “Top 50 Women in Business” by The Long Island Press.
