Councilman Labriola Announces Free Outdoor Youth Floorball Clinic

Oyster Bay Town Councilman Steve Labriola today announced that the Town will host a FREE outdoor youth floorball clinic on Saturday, June 8th from 10am to 12pm.  The clinic, which will take place at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, will help introduce players to floorball – a type of floor hockey that does not require bulky equipment, and will be hosted by the Town’s Youth Hockey House League Coaches.

“I’m proud to introduce this new free program this summer to our residents. Floorball is an exciting sport that is gaining in popularity and serves as a great entryway for players to hone their hockey skills without the necessity of an ice rink,” said Councilman Labriola.  “Residents will be happy to know that the Town’s Youth Ice Hockey House League Coaches will lead this program, as their coaching ranks feature many respected and talented coaches dedicated to sharpening participants hockey skills.”

In floorball competition, teams play 5 vs. 5 with goalies, just like in ice hockey.  The game takes place at a very fast but safe pace, as the emphasis in floorball is on speed and skill. The Outdoor Youth Floorball Clinic will be open to boys and girls ages 5-13, and no prior hockey experience is necessary. For those interested in attending, please bring your own hockey gloves and sneakers.  All other equipment will be provided.  In the event of rain, the clinic will take place on Saturday, June 29th instead.
